Seriously Defected

My first "svithe".

During class yesterday, I read the following in our Relief Society manual:
"One of the most serious human defects in all ages is procrastination, an unwillingness to accept personal responsibilities now."
As is obvious, I've procrastinated just putting up this post. I guess, I could say that I'd been pondering the above words; but then I'd not only be seriously defected--I'd be sinning by lying, too.

So, I'll just admit to procrastinating. In fact, I ashamedly admit to being the QUEEN of Procrastination. My friends and family would surely know this little secret of mine if only I'd quit procrastinating, and finish writing that Happy Holidays letter that is meant to be sent out with my Happy Holidays cards. But I've been so busy--procrastinating.

I'd also have at least one less 2007 New Year's goals if I'd quit procrastinating going to the gym, or even just going for regular walks. Or if I'd just quit saying to myself that "tomorrow" or "Monday", I'll start eating healthier.

There's also the home projects: making the dining room curtains, altering the living room curtains, putting the tile under the kitchen sink, cleaning out and reorganizing the kitchen shelves, etc. You know, those projects that will get done on "my next day off". Yeah, right.

So when I read the above quote, my first thought was: Wow! I am seriously defected.

Yes, I do realize that these words were referring more specifically to our responsibilities as mortals to prepare to return to our Heavenly Father's presence. And now that I've procrastinated, and am contemplating this statement more as I write, I believe that I understand more clearly what this statement means to me: I must resolutely work on overcoming my habit of procrastination on these seemingly mundane concerns in order to grow as a person.

So, I'll start working on ceasing my nasty habit of procrastination...

...tomorrow.
